We have returned from a week in the Lake District staying in a cottage in Skelwith. We finally saw blue skies on our leaving day! The rest of the time the skies were grey with wind and rain at the beginning of the week. We visited John Ruskin’s home, Brantwood, and while there we saw the sun shining on the opposite side of the lake - but not on us! Despite the greyness we had some wonderful walks. On our last day we went to the parish centre in Ambleside where a group of potters were having a sale. All the work was very varied and I enjoyed chattting to the makers. Before leaving I popped into the Parish Church and was overwhelmed by the many stained glass windows and the sun streaming through the coloured glass. Our final stop in Cumbria was to see the Quaker Tapestry in Kendal.Seventy embroidered panels tell the story of the Quakers from Charles Fox up to the present day.
